Famed underwater photographer Stephen Frink has been organizing and leading underwater photo tours since 1980. The destinations chosen are among the very best in tropical sport diving. The photo potential found at places like the Red Sea, Papua New Guinea, Palau, the Solomon Islands, Cocos, the Galapagos, Vanuatu, and Fiji are extraordinary, and the Stephen Frink MFT Photo Tours are designed to maximize everyone's opportunity for photographic excellence. Some trips have targeted specific marine life, like humpback whales, great white sharks, or spotted dolphins; while other trips simply feature warm water, outstanding water clarity, lush coral reefs, and a profusion of colorful reef tropicals. The common factor in any MFT destination is great diving that might be difficult for an individual to experience on their own.
Here Stephen describes the philosophy of an MFT Photo Tour - "There are lots of places in the diving world that are easily done without a guided tour. No one needs me along to fly to Bonaire and dive off the beach. But when traveling to some Third World destination just because their diving is great, it helps to have the security of a number of like-minded travelers. However, perhaps the greatest service I can lend is once we're aboard."
We will have booked the whole boat, and our shared intent is to find the best possible underwater photos, a fact I will have clearly communicated to the captain and crew. In our experience, underwater photographers are far better served traveling with us than being one of a few photographers on a boat where other interests must be served as well."
"I am certainly available for photo consultation while on-board, and if the boat offers E-6 processing, I would love to see your new photos and offer my opinions should you wish them. But unless the trip is specifically structured as a photo seminar (like our Stephen Frink Schools of Underwater Photography), I won't be teaching a formal class. But still considerable photo education does happen on these trips."
"Many of our clients are skilled and extremely talented photographers who are gracious about sharing their knowledge. We talk about what's new, what works, and how to do it better. If one person's strobe dies, there is likely to be someone else on board who has a spare to loan. If one of us finds a special underwater subject to photograph, they are likely share it with another photographer. These are really very special trips, and while we can only do them a few times a year, the memories and the friendships last a lifetime." Stephen Frink.
